Listening Session — ISSAI: Emergency Kiss & New Ecologies
August 21, The Indian Sonic Research Organisation hosted an evening at OTJF Record Store, featuring an ISSAI label showcase of Emergency Kiss and New Ecologies.
Emergency Kiss began in the late 90s with three friends experimenting with instruments they barely knew how to play, writing Hindi lyrics drawn from Bollywood and television culture. The result is music that is raw, loud, unpolished, and deeply affectionate.
New Ecologies is a collaboration between artists in India and Germany, transforming animal field recordings from the Max Planck Institute into layered sound works. Birds, bats, frogs, and other species become the basis for immersive sonic environments that reframe ecological listening as musical form.
Both records were played on vinyl during the session, accompanied by informal conversation with some of the artists about the stories, processes, and collaborations behind the releases.
Artists featured on the records: Anant Rohmetra, Bangalore Computer Club, Firat Yildiz, I7hvn, Murthovic, Peter Carey & Vinayak A.
At the event, Yashas Shetty also spoke about their time at the Max Planck Institute for Animal Behaviour as an artist in residency.
